Pass. Set. Hit.
Calls of “Mine!” and “Got it!” ring loudly, and the whistles of the referees pierce the air. The squeaking of shoes and cheers from the crowd fill the space that is the College Park gymnasium. The Lady Cavaliers are ready for a new season. After being last year’s undefeated district champions, there is much anticipation as to what the results will be this season.
After warming up during pre-season with tournaments and games, it’s finally time for the girls to put their true game face on as district play begins. In order to help them do so, Coach Collins ordered new uniforms.
“The new uniforms are chef’s kiss, Coach Collins did really well with them,” senior setter Molly Harris said.
The uniforms have been updated to fit the new trend of volleyball attire, with sleeveless tops and separate sleeves, and beautiful, clean colors. This is an exciting addition to this year’s volleyball team, as well as all the incoming freshmen and sophomores.
“We are a very young team, with a lot of freshmen and sophomores,” senior varsity captain Mallory Madison said .
The team is adjusting and working towards being more intune with each other, because the underclassmen don’t know the rituals and routines that the upperclassmen have been doing for years. With practice, they are improving and getting better. Working together more as a team is a big goal for the girls.
“The games I’m most nervous for are the games I’m most excited for,” Harris said. “I want to see how our team matches against them.”
The most anticipated game of the season is between CP and The Woodlands. The girls are also nervous for another unexpectedly good team.
“Grand Oaks, because their team is really good,” Madison said, “They’ve had a great season so far.”
The Lady Cavs have already played them in pre-season and beat Grand Oaks, but the first season game on the 23rd should be a competitive one.
“We love having a student section there,” Harris said, “It’s one of the best feelings. But in actuality, fun games that people should come watch are The Woodlands games, because of the rivalry. ”
Be sure to go show the Lady Cavs some support September 13 for their home game against The Woodlands. The JV team will play at 4:30, and varsity will play at 5:30.
