A Christmas Fail

Dayan Rivera

With Christmas just around the corner, most people  celebrate the upcoming holiday by making delicious food, setting up decorations, and wrapping gifts. This year I am expressing my holiday cheer by baking M&M Christmas cookies along with hot chocolate.

I used a recipe from What’s Gaby Cooking to bake my Christmas cookies, which helped a lot with its specific measurements and list of ingredients to use. On the website you are able to find the recipe needed for the amount of cookies you want to make and in my case, I made nine.

0.25 cup unsalted butter at room temperature

0.25 cup packed brown sugar

0.25 cup white sugar

0.5 eggs at room temperature

0.63 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

0.63 cups all purpose flour (measured by scooping the flour and leveling with knife)

0.25 teaspoon kosher salt

0.25 teaspoon baking soda

0.25 teaspoon baking powder

0.5 cups Christmas Colored M&M’s

Since, I have little to no baking experience, I was faced with many troubles throughout the baking process, such as making a mess in the kitchen and getting flour onto my clothes.Although, I did have help which made the experience a lot more enjoyable.

The cookies did not turn out the way we expected them to. It quickly became frustrating trying to make the cookies look more presentable, especially when having another person in the kitchen trying to help. We had trouble communicating at first because we both wanted to perfect the cookies, but in the end they ended up looking not-so-great. I could have been more patient with my cookies or listen to what my partner was saying and the cookies could have turned up better.

We didn’t think the experience we had was going to be that difficult. However, we did end up finding laughter out of our failure because we got to spend time together and now we have created a new memory that we could never forget.
