What Will Prom Be Like?

April 30, 2021
In anticipation of this school year’s prom, we asked some seniors about their hopes and expectations regarding the dance, and how the experience may be different than previous years due to the pandemic.
Senior Michela Bracci
“Up until it was finally confirmed, I was not entirely convinced that we were going to get a prom this year. It’s been a strange year, after all. Now that more people are coming back in person, and now that seniors are getting the vaccine, however, I think having prom is a great idea. Masks and social distancing will likely change things from previous years, but any prom is better than no prom. I think whatever regulations have to be put in place are worth it for us to have a fun and safe prom this year.”
Senior Imani Kamau
“I’m really glad we get to have prom. Even though it’s not gonna be as traditional as in previous years, it’s still pretty exciting. It’s gonna be a fun time to connect with my friends, especially right before graduation. I just want the pandemic to be over so we can go back to normalcy. Remote learning has changed the way I interact with people. It’s made me value conversation and interaction with others much more because I see the same people on a day to day basis, and it’s refreshing to talk to new people. Getting to see all my friends and share the night with them is something I can’t wait to do. Prom is going to be fun, even with masks and social distancing.”
Senior Eliza Joseph
“I’m actually very excited for prom. After all the craziness of this past year, I think it’s good to have some sense of normalcy back again. I’ve been looking forward to reuniting with my friends and celebrating the end of our high school career, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds. Prom is one of those things I’ve looked forward to since I was a freshman, and it’s hard to believe it’s only a couple of days away. Even though it’s been four years since we started high school, time has flown by. Despite having to wear masks and practice social distancing, I think prom will be a blast and an experience I will never forget.”
Quinn Bromley, senior
“It’s hard to believe prom is this week already. I am looking forward to it. I don’t think it’ll be that different from previous years. It’s going to be fun, and even though we are in the middle of a pandemic, it’ll be nice to see my friends and have a blast.”
Jason Loza, senior
“I’ve been an online student this year, so prom will be the first time I see a lot of my friends. I don’t think social distancing nor wearing masks will change the experience from previous years. It’d be nice if things were back to normal, but we’re not quite there yet. Prom is prom, though, and at least we’re having one.”
